![]() ![]() Hazelnut Bastille isn’t due out until mid-2019 for the PC and Switch, but already looks like it may easily be worth the wait. While there is no official trailer for the game yet, you can check out the latest demo at the game’s official site, where you glimpse more of of our female protagonist’s mysterious journey, and see just how perfectly it evokes the spirit of such SNES legends as Secret of Mana and A Link to the Past. The project is being developed in the Unity Engine, in a custom framework built in C, and features its own custom development tools and level editors which allow us to manage environmental art and level design scripting in one. Kikuta apparently fell in love with the game and answered the call when the developers were looking for composers, leading to his inclusion as a special guest. Hazelnut Bastille started as a prototyping project in April of 2016, and has been in full time development ever since. And now not only has it been announced that the game will be headed to the Nintendo Switch alongside the PC version, but that original Secret of Mana composer Hiroki Kikuta will be contributing to the game’s soundtrack. Well, how about Hazelnut Bastille, from developers Aloft Studio? The retro-styled homage to 16-bit adventures and JRPGs seems like a natural fit to carry on Secret of Mana’s legacy. As we saw last month, the Secret of Mana remake for the PS4 was a bit of a letdown, with odd choices in the redesigned elements that tarnished things a bit. ![]()
